Thailand
has so much to offer apart from what the Tourism Authority of Thailand
markets- "the land of the smiles". Its unique geographic location
places the Southern part of Thailand in between two of the most beautiful
oceans, the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Thailand(Pacific Ocean). Thailand,
you'll find fabulous architecture, beautiful beaches and islands, affordable
shopping, delicious food, exotic hill-tribe villages, ancient ruins --
and all the amenities as well. The balance between comfort and excitement
is makes this country one of the most visited countries in Asia (some
12 million visitors a year). From the frenetic and crowded capital to
the serene hill country gateway of Chiang Mai, Thailand is a place that
can excite the mind, tantalize the senses and take care of most everyday
needs.
Many people describe Bangkok as the "organised chaos". The fascinating
capital of Bangkok is alive with commerce and street-bustle nearly every
hour of the day. The city and country are generally relatively safe, and
both have decades of experience catering to business and leisure travelers.
In Bangkok, you might want to lose your way intentionally -- to discover
the hidden parts of the city that you might otherwise miss. And you can
always find a tuk-tuk or a taxi to take you back to your hotel. Many also
travel to the North (Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai) to visit hill tribes,
the Golden Triangle or play golf. An hour away from Bangkok, Chonburi
Province (Pattaya) boasts more than 30 golf courses within a 30 minute
drive. Kanchanaburi, of Bridge on the River Kwai fame, is another excellent
golfing venue with a dozen or more fine golf clubs. Luxury Destination
Spas are prime attractions for those wishing to be pampered.
Thailand has some of best spas in the world. Many hotels in Bangkok offer
packages which can be a great idea if you are ready to self-indulge!
Unfortunately, the Tsunamis that struck Southeast Asia in December 2004
dealt a serious blow to Thailand's tourism infrastructure: The widespread
damage to coastal areas in southern. The hardest-hit regions were Phang-Nga,
Phuket and Krabi provinces, including popular resort areas in Phuket and
Phi Phi Island. In addition, many small fishing villages were completely
destroyed. Samed Island is located on the opposite side of the country
and was not hit by the Tsunami. Nevertheless, staff from Lima Coco has
been actively fund-raising to help Tsunami victims in Krabi Province.
Our managers have been to Krabi several times after the Tsunami to help
with procurement and logistics during the first phase of emergency relief.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Lima Coco guests
who donated and to let you know that your donation has been put to good
use.
